I'm a Youth Services Librarian who, unsurprisingly, has always loved books. Most of what you'll see here will be chapter books and teen novels--though I do storytimes and love picture books, there are just too many for me to rate them all. Every so often I make time for an adult book as well.
I try to read widely so that I can help all kinds of readers, though I do find myself gravitating toward:
- Character-centric books
- First-person narrators
- Darkly atmospheric
- Darker subject matter
- "Literary" books
- Absurd humor
- Meta humor
- "Guy books"
- Graphic novels
Concerning the rating scale below, sometimes I wonder if I'm not guilty of inflated scoring. It may be, but I instead like to think I'm selective about what I choose to read, avoiding the bad ones for the most part, and am generous about finding each book's appeal factors, rating it from the perspective of the target audience. My goal is to find good things to read and help you do the same.
