Somewhat overlooked 80s teen/coming of age movie. Like "American Graffiti," it taps into nostalgia by setting the story in the early 60s and loading the soundtrack with lots of period music. I guess Matt Dillon is the flamingo kid, although nobody calls him that. He has a summer job at a beach club, but he's also really good at cards. He romances Janet Jones (who later married Wayne Gretzky), hangs out with his buddies (including Fisher Stevens and Bronson Pinchot), and learns life lessons from rich guy Richard Loggia. But is he forgetting where he came from? Look for John Turturro and Marisa Tomei in tiny parts. Jessica Water ("Arrested Development," "Archer") is the highlight. Directed (sort of) by Garry Marshall ("Pretty Woman").
