The Willow Falls series is one of my favourite series! Best friends Amanda and Leo have celebrated their birthday together for as long as they can remember. So it makes sense that they would celebrate their eleventh birthday together, right? When Amanda and Leo have a big fight a few days before their birthday they decide to have two different birthday parties. Amanda is stuck in her costume for her boring Hollywood themed party while Leo is having a large party with a hypnotist, a football star and even a rock band. Amanda just wishes that she could skip the day so she can stop thinking about the fight. But the next day it’s her birthday all over again. This was a great book, for anyone ages nine and older. Wendy Mass tells a story about friendship, magic, and family. Every now and then, I’ll pick up this novel specifically and read it once again, and it’ll feel like a breath of fresh air. The combination of nonfiction and fiction, the untacky inclusion of superpowers, and the spectacularly beautiful message are features that I loved the most while reading the book. However, as time goes on, I personally find myself to outgrow the book and the series as a whole, so I wouldn’t recommend this book to those looking for something a tad bit more mature. Otherwise, If you’re searching for a fun and unique book, “11 Birthdays” by Wendy Mass would be a wonderful choice. Rating: 4/5 - @WordfulReviews of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board As the first book of the Willow Falls series by Wendy Mass, I would say that the writing style she chose to use to introduce the characters in “11 Birthdays” was one of the most eloquent and ideal methods she could’ve used to grasp the attention of the reader within the first few chapters. Not only did she describe the connection and relationship between each main character and their relevance in a detailed manner, but Wendy Mass also made sure to incorporate age-appropriate yet still relatable content while keeping in mind that most of her books’ readers are young. The constantly thickening plot and the storyline following Leo and Amanda’s shared birthdays that’s basically made up of twists, turns, and suspense delivered room for creative expansion of easily-comprehensible and imaginative content while staying in bounds of reality. Overall, Wendy Mass has written yet another powerful and moving page-turner that will have readers tempted to fast-track to the resolution. Rating: 4/5 - @BiggerPictureReviews of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library Eleven Birthdays is such an amazing, fun, and magical book by Wendy Mass. The main character Amanda is stuck in a time loop where she and her ex-best friend Leo’s birthdays keep repeating over and over again. Amanda is definitely a relatable character and the story is super interesting and original. All of the characters are interesting and well developed. Wendy Mass is a terrific author and all of her books are amazing! I would definitely recommend this book and rate it 4 out of 5 stars. - @reginaphalange of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
