This story of a Hindu religious dance in the 16th Century could, for most readers, be set in any time period. While there is some history as background to the story and the characters, the book has a timeless quality. The main theme is the self-determination (as opposed to doing what tradition demands a person do) of a young Hindu woman. The book is engagingly written and the story flows smoothly.
