The Periodic Table

Its Story and Its Significance
Nov 12, 2011ReidCooper rated this title 4.5 out of 5 stars
Scerri's book tells the fascinating story of how we came to identify the elements as the basic building blocks of our world. "The Periodic Table" is a very well-written book, and Scerri is clearly an expert in the topic, weaving together history, philosophy, chemistry and biography with ease. I really enjoyed this book, and while some later sections can be demanding if you aren't a chemist, the pay-off is well worth it. It can lead you to see the world in a whole new way. The book is also a valuable case-study in the philosophy of science. It is a rare book that experts will find useful and informative while interested lay readers will find also enjoyable.
