* Easy to read, hard to put down. Butler's eloquent writing style is simple without being simplistic. She has a talent for getting ideas across with just enough words, no more. * The book is labeled as science fiction, but really it defies categorization. I think that if you like adventure, mystery, romance, historical fiction, or science fiction, you will like Kindred. * As far as the science fiction elements go, Kindred explores ways in which time travel might affect everyday lives and relationships. * None of the characters in Kindred is 100% good or 100% bad. Instead, the characters fall somewhere along a continuum, and they change over time...just like people do in real life. * This book makes you think about lots of good questions: questions about race relations and prejudice, questions about how our ancestors' lives influence our own, and questions about right vs. wrong. I bet that you'll still be thinking about this book long after you read the last page.
