For every summer Belly can remember, she went to the house on Cousins Beach with her brother, Mother, mothers best friend Susannah, and her boys Conrad and Jeremiah. Although in the past they have all acted like family, Belly has always had a sweet spot for those boys. The previous summer things started happening, things other than romance and this year no one is going back to the beach house. Belly is in disbelief. Her entire life has been measured in summers. The time in between is irrelevant. No where is safe. At home her mother is in a haze over the death of her dear friend Susannah. Previously, Conrad has been Belly’s concern, in a trance whenever with him, but when his feelings aren't matched with hers the past year she feels as if it is the end. She receives a call from Jeremiah and the table turns. For anyone who has ever felt empty by the death of a loved one will understand Belly’s emotion. As well as the emotions attached to holding onto a crush for too long and realizing the pain it causes you. This sequel to the book The Summer I Turned Pretty gives the perfect message of hope. Following Belly on her journey to finding herself again after all that has happened. Provided with a beautiful setting and excellent description of emotion, I don’t know an adolescent who wouldn’t enjoy and find comfort in this story. Would definitely read again and recommend anyone who hasn’t to give it a try.
