Beginning GIMP

From Novice to Professional
May 18, 2010
I happened to correspond with the author of _Beginning GIMP_ about a general problem with books about software and Open Source ** software in particular. Books are written about the version available at the time of the writing but new versions evolve and by the time the book is published or read. The current Gimp version: 2.6.8 (December 10, 2009) The author, Akkana Peck., wrote on 4/20/2010: [The book] was based mainly on version 2.4 but it does talk about the changes for 2.6: there's an appendix summarizing the changes, and I try to mention it throughout the book when something has moved between 2.4 and 2.6. ** Open source software (OSS) projects are built and maintained by a network of volunteer programmers and usually available to users at no cost. Prime examples of open source products are the widely used Apache HTTP Server, and the internet browser Mozilla Firefox.
