This is a 1965 Czechoslovak film about the Aryanization during World War II in the Slovak State.
An inept Czech carpenter is torn between greed and guilt when his Nazi-affiliated brother-in-law appoint him "Aryan controller" of an old Jewish widow's button shop.
Humor and tragedy come together in this scathing look into the cowardly man's mind in the horrors of a Nazi regime.
The acting of Jozef Kroner as a good-for-nothing man is superb.
It is a somewhat funny yet profoundly heart-wrenching tragedy.
