Due to my recent Nora Ephron obsession (her books and movies), I just re-read Heartburn and I remembered I forgot how deliciously good this novel is. It's very funny ... it's as though Nora is speaking to you as a friend about her doomed second marriage to Carl Bernstein of Watergate fame (although she's changed the names Nora and Carl to Rachel and Mark). Yes, the subject matter is very sad but Nora manages to make you laugh most of the way through this novel. And I love how she effortlessly works recipes into the narrative (recipes you may want to try).
