Very good book to show kids that it is fine that your hair is different and you can wear it in multiple ways. My girl loved it so much that I decided to add this book to her collection of books.

This Academy Award winning creator shares a story that is exactly what the world needs. It features family, love and appreciation for loving ourselves as we are and big hair too.

It’s a special day for Zuri. Her thick tangled hair needs to be styled extra pretty for today. She loves her hair even when it has a mind of its own. Braids and beads make her feel like a princess and afro puffs a superhero.

With dads help she could have the best hair-do ever. The first, second, third and fourth attempts were a disaster. But, reaching out to the internet because knowledge is power, they find just what they need.

This heart felt story shares empowerment, family love and hair love. Young readers will see the power of motivation and determination, not just with hair but with keeping a family together. Imaginative and colorful illustrations share the obstacles and the triumphs of a girl dad helping his daughter. Parents and teachers can use this tool to discuss black hair, culture, styles and even hair care.

This well-written book with adorable pictures seems to be on the surface about a little girl having her hair done. But it's a lot more than that. It shatters a few myths about fathers in general and black fathers in particular. Far from the absentee father myth, here the father stays home and shows his love for his daughter by combing her frizzy hair lovingly while his wife brings home the bacon. A lovely book to read to or with your young children.

This is such a touching and sweet picture book about a father and daughter bonding over doing her hair. The illustrations are cute, vibrant, and detailed. I read this for my Hair Story Time and the kids really loved it. I also recommend watching the animated short based off of the book. It's so good!

We read this to our son who dislikes combing his hair. He enjoyed looking at different hairdo's that gal's father tries for his daughter. This book is a great resource for introducing diversity books and also breaks stereotypes about fathers.

This book makes my heart sing. I love everything about it from the illustrations to Dad's determination to get Zuri's 'do just right to Zuri saying "I love that my hair lets me be me". So happy to have this in our library's collection!

This adorable picture book just makes my heart happy! Zuri has gorgeous natural hair, and a hardworking dad who likes to put her hair in braids, puffs and twists. But Zuri wants something special. Daddy tries and tries and tries again until they finally come up with something that makes her feel special. The illustrations are high quality and super cute, and the warmth and nurturing connection between a little black girl and her daddy is so well executed. A big yes for daddy storytime!

The page in which Zuri says, "Daddy, really?" is my definite favorite. The illustrations and message are great!

...I have hair that has a mind of its own. It kinks, coils, and curls every which way. Dad tells me it is beautiful. That makes me proud. I love that my hair lets me be me!
