I love this series! Since I am always confused about which book comes next and stuff here's a guide: #1 Divergent #2 Insurgent #3 Allegiant. And Four is Tobias's point of view and takes place in the past but it also overlaps a few chapters into Divergent (it contains spoilers too)

A sharply-written first novel in a series that has now become famous. This teen SF novel will be popular with the same readers who liked *The Hunger Games* series, especially young women looking for a strong heroine breaking away from a limited existence and facing difficult and deadly odds.

In the generations after a war which has destroyed much of Chicago, the residents have divided into 5 “factions”, each based on a philosophical principle. Beatrice, just turned 16, has grown up in the Abnegation faction, which believes that selfishness was the cause of the disasters of the past. Once a year all of the 16 year-olds go through aptitude tests to inform them about which faction matches their personality. Beatrice finds her personal toughness but also finds hints that this society of factions has the potential to come apart violently.

Very exciting, page-turning story with good main characters, although the “villains” are stereotyped. Still, not many flaws for a first novel, and the energy of the story and writing style carry the reader over any beginner bumps.

I have read that of Divergent, and it pretty good. First I have to watch the movie and then read the book.
The ending was great. I think you should all read it.

I was left wanting more after reading the Hunger Games series and I came across this book. Right away, I was drawn in by the similarities with the post-war/post-apocalyptic setting. Beatrice is coming upon her sixteenth birthday. Her society is divided into five classes, each with their life-long calling and role. Every member of society chooses which group they wish to belong to at the age of sixteen; but should that choice be different from their family, they will never see them again. I was ecstatic to find such an intriguing, exciting and adventurous story. I know you’ll love it too! (submitted by SMC)

Divergent is the first novel in the Divergent trilogy written by Veronica Roth. The main character is Beatrice Prior who lives in a dystopian society where everyone is divided into one of five factions. Their is her faction, Abnegation, for the selfless, Candor for the honest, Amity for the peaceful, Erudite for the intellectual, and Dauntless for the brave. Beatrice is sixteen which means she will take part in the choosing ceremony where she can choose to stay in Abnegation or choose another faction. Once she is initiated into the faction there is no going back, and if you do not pass initiation, then you become factionless left to live in poverty. I would recommend this novel to anyone interested in dystopian novels or young adult novels like The Hunger Games or The Maze Runner. The book is very fast-paced and commonly noted as an action-packed dystopia. There is also a lot of violence, making this novel a mature read not suitable for a younger audience. Divergent is engaging, entertaining, and empowering to girls and young women. Overall, if I had to rate this novel, I would rate it five out of five stars.

Divergent is a dystopian, sci-fi novel written by Veronica Roth, and is the first novel of a trilogy. I found this to be the most interesting and fascinating novel out of the trilogy. I somewhat found this an interesting read, even though I am not the biggest fan of dystopian novels, but I do not think I would read this again. Throughout this book, society is divided into different factions who have differing morals, and also differing responsibilities. Upon reaching a certain age, teens must choose a faction in which they will spend the rest of their lives, and also pass the given tests. I don’t like cliches in a novel and I enjoy originality a bit more, with that being said, this novel was filled with cliches. There were so many predictable outcomes to situations that were incredibly cliche. I think the concept Roth had was something really interesting, however, I feel like the execution of her ideas could have been better. I don’t know if I would recommend this to a friend. I give this novel a 2.5/5.

Rating: 5/5 This is one of my favourite books because of the interesting plot line. The fact that one trait can dominate or define a person is a very interesting idea and then the author decided to group all people that have the same trait into 'factions'. The fact that the leaders are afraid of people like Tris that transcend having only one characteristic and are 'Divergent' gives the book an air of suspense and mystery as the audience comes to understand why being divergent is such a threat to their 'perfect' society.

This book is about a girl and her choices; her choices will change her life and define her. The author wrote this young adult novel extremely well and it is an amazing book for all to read. It is such a good book and the readers will fall in love with the characters. This book is definitely a page turner and will keep the readers on the edge of their seats. This is not a cliché book and it empowers women, it encourages women to be who they want to be and to make their own choices. It teaches all the readers they can be who they want to be and no one else defines us but us. 4/5 stars

This is my new favourite book! It’s a perfect mixture of action, emotion and romance. While reading it I immediately fell in love with the main character, and all the other characters too. I love how brave but also humble she is. It’s a perfectly touching story and beautifully written. Five stars!

I wasn't able to get five stars because I couldn't get the program to work properly. But a very good book. I never liked Hunger Games; this book though is I interesting from start to finish. Dark, mysterious, with questions you need to know the answer to, this book is more than Hunger Games fan fiction.

This book is amazing! It is a great mix of dystopian society, romance, adventure, and sci-fi. It is my favorite book of all time. Some people say it is just a different version of the Hunger Games written by a different author, but it really isn't.

She is warned to never tell anyone of her results - it is dangerous to be Divergent.
