Manufactured Crisis

The Untold Story of the Iran Nuclear Scare

In Manufactured Crisis, investigative reporter Gareth Porter shows how Israel and the George W. Bush administration successfully waged their campaign claiming that Iran was trying covertly to acquire a nuclear weapon. Porter shows in detail that most of the so-called evidence for such a weapons program was of dubious origin, including the documents that allegedly originated from the laptop of an Iranian nuclear scientist. As Iran and the United States have engaged in serious negotiations over Iran's nuclear program, this book has provided crucial background material for those who want to make an independent assessment of the record, rather than relying on highly politicized allegations. --Provided by publisher.

In the 1990s, a company managed by one Dick Cheney [Halliburton] is hired by the Iranian government for economic futures advice. Their advice: to develop their next greatest resource after oil, radium; i.e. their nuclear energy industry. Cheney becomes vice president and next a leaker within the Defense Intelligence Agency, Chris Mellon [of the fabulously wealthy Mellon family], lets purposely leak that Iran has nukes [this is back around 2000-2002 period]! As a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Iran HAS THE LEGAL AND LEGITIMATE RIGHT to develop a nuclear program. Understood? Great book. [But Iran still hasn't signed the WTO's Financial Services Agreement - - might that be the problem?]
