This thriller and drama movie is basically a major revenge movie, that is about criminals who kidnap and torture two young girls leaving them for dead. After one of them manages to survive, they make their way home where their parents are housing the people that almost killed her. Together with her parents, they decide to make them pay. This movie is somewhat comical in some ways since the plot is kind of juvenile, but it does offer a lot of entertainment and many moments for gore and blood. I would rate this movie 3/5 stars and recommend it to those who like revenge style films. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

I agree with the patron who said it's not as good as the original, but it's so rare that is the case. I thought they did a fairly good job at the remake however and would recommend it to any (adult) horror fan.

And, so, I ask you - Would you consider this flick to be entertainment?_____ If nothing else, "Last House" certainly packed one helluva mean. brutal and ugly wallop, With its unbearably suffocating atmosphere of dread and despair, this film actually contained no real redeeming factor, whatsoever._____ The savage and vicious "eye-for-an-eye" mentality that prevailed throughout "Last House" certainly left me with a sense of sheer hopelessness. And, after I had viewed this picture I seriously asked myself - "Since 2 wrongs don't make a right, then, do you suppose that 3, or 4, or 5, do?_____ Technically speaking - Yes. I will admit that "Last House" was, undoubtedly, a well-crafted picture (with a sizable budget) that was clearly filmed by a crew of pros who obviously knew what they were doing._____ But, with that said, this film does leave one shaking their head and asking why this particular story-from-hell had to be re-told, 37 years later._____ Sheesh! Like, give me a break, already!

Entertaining. The bad guys were punished in the end.

The best scary movie I've seen in awhile. If you're borrowing this just a warning that I watched the "unrated" version, not the "theatrical" version, but there were some pretty graphic scenes. Particularly one involving rape.

Stick to the original 1971 film. This one tries, but sometimes it is best to leave well enough alone.

Pretty violent movie but ultimately disappointing, lacking any real suspense or drama.

Well... so much for that saying: "Revenge is a plate best eaten cold!" This film is anything but... It's hot-bloodedly brutal, searingly graphic and disgustingly explicit and when it's all over, I guess the audience is supposed to feel retribution was served on those who would do that kind of evil upon innocent human beings...
But - at what cost?! If you allow yourself to act like the vicious murderers you exact your revenge upon - are you any different? I'm not sure what the motivation was for filming such a violent flick - if not for the gratuitous thrill of seeing a wrong - "righted" - in the only way people who act like animals, understand: Righted as violently as possible! Or, maybe that's the whole point being made here - that all human beings are capable of anything, if sufficiently motivated!
This ISN'T a straight remake of Wes Craven's, some-say, landmark horror movie (I thought the original sucked!), despite its title - even though the same, Wes Craven was involved in this version as producer. What it kept was the pure exploitation of the old classic, trading in thriller for horror and adding in moral vindication for revenging degradation, as easily as murder.
Technically speaking - this film is well crafted and expertly filmed, with some very convincing acting from all characters involved. Having said that - I still shake my head at why it had to be remade. There're no redeeming values to be found, despite its moralistic message, so Hollywood exploitation rears its ugly head again, I'm afraid, leaving the audience aghast at some of the things they are subjected to, in the name of nostalgic remake.

Skip It – The Last House on the Left (2009) 114 min. All in all, the film is not a bad thriller but it just goes too far on the violence. If I were producing this picture, I would’ve excised 20 minutes of footage out of this film. In one scene, a teenage girl is violently raped; why is it necessary to show all the gory details? The film is about a dysfunctional family terrorizing two teenage girls and then the parents of one of the girls. There’s absolutely no lessons learned in this violent fest. Revenge seems to be the way to go it seems and one asks if the parents were justified. But like all horror films, even this picture goes too far. Stay away from this one only for the disgusting situations.
