"On March 1, 1953, the Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union -- Joseph Stalin -- had a severe stroke. A doctor could not be called until the Central Committee had convened, voted, and agreed on which doctor to use, a task made more complex by the fact that Stalin had just ordered the deaths of many of the Soviet Union's leading physicians. And so began the bureaucratic merry-go-round that became the intense and underhanded struggle for control of a nation."--Page [4] of cover

After seeing the new movie, "Death of Stalin", I was compelled with a desire to learn more about Russian history. The movie is excellent and it's based on this graphic novel.

Had I not first seen the film I'd not have sought out this book or actually enjoyed reading it. As a supplement to the film though, it works well. The film helps to answer some questions though even between the two, I have many more.

The style of drawing is harsh, befitting the subject matter. A longer graphic novel with more narrative would perhaps have answered the many questions I still have, but perhaps I'll need to go right to a non-graphic novel to do a deep dive. This is a good graphic novel depicting an interesting time in history and serves as a useful and interesting companion piece to the film.
