Lord "Bunchy" Gospell is helping Scotland Yard solve a spot of blackmail but he gets too close and is killed after a party thrown by one of the blackmailees.

Roderick Alleyn was his friend and the inspector in charge of the case and feels responsible. He, detective Fox and the rest of his team view the world of debutantes and secrets worth killing for.
