I did not like this book. It should have never been written.

My least favorite of a favorite author.

I've read several of Ms. Barrs books and I've enjoyed them. Burn's story is covered up by flowery discriptions that do not add to the story and slow the reading concept.

Very disappointing. This has to be her worst book.

Sad, dark...but this series has been getting a little darker over the last few novels anyhow. Two stories--one featuring Anna Pigeon, one featuring new characters--trade chapters (more or less) for about half the book, before you finally figure out how they intersect. The chapters dealing with a woman named Claire are harder to get into (and have dark themes) than those featuring our familiar heroine. When they come together, the story gets darker; but at least we're on more familiar ground, and we get an interesting glimpse into how Anna appears to others.

I'm always eager for a new Nevada Barr, but the darkness of this story was hard for me. I like Anna better out in the wilderness.

While on leave from her job, Anna Pigeon is staying with a friend in New Orleans. She befriends Jordan, who turns out to be a mother on the run. Accused of killing her two daughters, she is sure they have been kidnapped, and possibly been brought to New Orleans to serve as sexual objects.
Grim, and too sexually graphic.

Not a usual Nevada Barr book. Still Anna Pigeon but this one walks on the really dark side. It takes a long time to come together and when it does watch out. It deals with child prostitution and is really hard to take. It will haunt me for a long time.
