"In 2002, Tabitha Soren began photographing the draft class for the Oakland A's-their lives on the road, and the grueling work behind the scenes required to make it to the major leagues. Soren has continued to photograph them ever since, documenting their divergent paths through success, heartbreak, and, sometimes, even fame. Accompanied by five linked short stories by Dave Eggers, 'Fantasy Life' explores the enduring spirit of this quintessential American fantasy of making it in the major leagues"--Back cover

As a fan of the Oakland A's, as someone who sat in the stands during much of their historic "streak", as someone who was an extra in the film "Moneyball" and actually found myself on screen in a scene with Jonah Hill I loved this beautiful book. The author, former MTV VJ, Tabitha Soren, has included gorgeous and evocative photos of players, baseball fields, and the backstage of baseball. She follows the draft class, featured prominently in the Moneyball (the book), showing you what their career went on to look like in a simple and easily understood format. It's interesting to see what a pittance most made during their MLB lifetime. Also enjoyable is the short story by Dave Eggers, which courses through the book and culminates in a thought provoking end.

I ate this (largely picture) book up. Loved it.
