As someone who has an ongoing love affair with the City of San Francisco I was excited to find this book accessible through the Marin library system. I'd come across it in local museum stores and wanted the chance to spend some real time with it, without purchasing it. Now that I've had that opportunity I have a confession: I love the title and the idea but am not in love with the book itself.

The artist author, Jeremy Fish, was given a residency in SF City Hall and labored to produce 100 pieces of SF-related art in 100 days. Whether it is the lack of color (the art is black and white), the SF City Hall-centric drawings, or just the repetitive nature of the book I found it to be a bit of a disappointment. The artist is obviously creative and talented but this book seems to focus on City Hall to the exclusion of our neighborhoods. It's worth a look through, but another artist book is needed if we are to use an art book to get at the essence of San Francisco in book form.
