"A childhood spent in a dangerous cult left Sunday Night never with a bone-deep instinct for survival that's kept her alive into adulthood but left her mostly friendless. Forced into early retirement from the police force due to an injury, Sunnie retreats from an outside world she doesn't trust and sees little use for, until a wealthy woman contacts her with a plea: her teenage granddaughter has been missing since the day of a bombing near a Jewish school. Suspecting the work of religious extremists, she believes Sunnie's unique first-hand experience may make her the ideal woman to track down the girl and bring her captors to justice. As much as Sunnie would rather stay isolated, she won't turn her back on an innocent life in jeopardy -- not when her haunted past cries out for her to take action"-- Provided by publisher

Usually I am a huge fan of Kathy Reichs. However, I didn't care for the style of integrating the two plots.

Definitely a page turner. The two stories at once was not my favourite, so I mainly focused on the main plot line.

This is a stand alone book by Kathy Reichs. I love her previous books with Temperance Brennan. This was a good read but I found the main character a little intense. It will be interesting to see if she creates a new series.

another amazing book from the utterly incredible Kathy Reichs!

Couldn’t get interested in either the main character or the plot. Not up to the author’s usual standard.

I've never read one of the Temperence Brennan books (shocking, I know). I decided to try this one out when a coworker recommended it. I really liked the strong female protagonist, as well as the numerous twists and turns. An enjoyable plot-driven thriller that also managed to be an interesting character study.

I enjoyed reading this book. Could not put it down therefore read it in one evening. I found the wordplay between the characters fast paced, entertaining and funny.

Could not finish this book. It felt like Reichs was wandering around looking for a plot.

I love Kathy Reichs and have read all her Temperance Brennan books. She's one of my favourite authors. I love her style of writing.
I knew going in that this was a new character and a stand alone story.
I just couldn't get into this....I could not relate to or form an attachment to the character. Although the story line is contemporary, I found the story a bit tedious and three quarters of the way in I just wanted it to end.
If this becomes a series I likely would give the character another chance in the hopes that it would improve. I understand that an author would want to try new directions after a long successful series. It just felt to me that Ms Reichs was trying to find her way with this new character(s) and trying hard to do something different from forensics.. Sunday Night didn't seem like a "real" person to me.
