Collected lectures, essays, book introductions and reviews by the author. "These are, really, all occasional pieces addressed on various occasions to various audiences. Their subjects range through animals in books, invented languages, sleep, the house I grew up in, anarchism, how to read poem, and a poem about a plinth. The most useful way to arrange them was chronologically. Many of them were revised slightly for this book"-- Introduction

A smattering of insightful, curious essays and book reviews. Reading review after review might sound tedious, but LeGuin’s keen eye weaves between disappointed criticism and utter delight in a way that made me cringe for some authors... and immediately put others on my holds list. It’s bittersweet to be too young to have read LeGuin while she was living - bitter to know she’s not typing away anymore somewhere in the world, and sweet that her words remain.
