Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson return in the acclaimed modern retelling of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic stories. But what if this wasn't the modern day? What if it was the late Victorian period? What if the world's most famous consulting detective and his best friend lived in a Baker Street of steam trains, hansom cabs, top hats and frock-coats? Welcome to Sherlock in 1895!--Container

Glad I didn't spend good money on this at the theatre!

Rated 2/10. I feel really cheated watching this silly and disappointing story. Why? Because in the end, you find that there is no story!

When this series first started out, it was okay, but it's morphed into something quite daft. No thanks.

Give me the Elementary TV series any day, with Jonny Lee Miller in the lead role.

Entertaining and great fun - but probably only for those who (A) have already watched previous episodes of Sherlock, and (B) are very familiar with the original Sherlock Holmes stories. It is full of continuous references to the Conan Doyle stories, direct or indirect, all the while playing with a side-by-side storyline involving the Victorian Holmes and Watson, and their modern counterparts from the Sherlock series. Gets confusing if you aren't paying attention, because the story moves very fast and with continual twists and turns.

Boring. Boring. Boring.

Tries to modernize and refresh Sherlock Holmes but the result is disjointed, confusing and not terribly entertaining.

As a lover of Sherlock Holmes
stories, I was expecting old stories, new cast. Wrong!!!
As has been previously noted,
watching the first two series is
mandatory if you are not going to wonder what is going on here. If you are able to just let yourself go, you're in for a great
time. A most imaginative story
that does move back and forth
rather like a roller coaster, but
if you hold on with both hands
you are in for a treat!!
Mrs. Hudson has some hilarious lines!!

If you haven't watched the 3 series of Sherlock, why would you watch this special and expect it to make sense? Would you start reading a book 3/4 of the way through, then complain that you don't know what's going on?

On the other hand, if you HAVE watched, and greatly enjoyed, the 3 series of Sherlock, then this special is - imo - an absolute treasure. Excellent use of old and new, the return of much loved characters, and a rip-roaringly good tale. Tons of humour as always, and a joy to watch the meeting of Holmes and Sherlock as originally written by Conan Doyle.

Did not enjoy, I chose to end it early so I would not suffer further.

One thing I think would explain the numerous low ratings for this title is a simple fact: You absolutely have to watch the third series (season, for us American folk) of Sherlock for it to make any sense at all. And if you want the third series to make sense, you need to watch the first and second two. Contrary to popular belief, this is not entirely a stand-alone addition to the existing Sherlock episodes, but a continuation with a twist.

As for the story itself, I loved the plotline, though it was truly a bit disjointed, and it added some necessary character development, especially with Moriarty's supposed return. The different setting of the story shows each and every character in a different (probably more accurate in Molly's case) light.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this video, but only to those who will watch the rest of Sherlock before they watch this. :)

Abominable--is really what this movie is. I never watched the series and after the flash-forwards I will certainly not watch it. Silly plot, silly characters. Poor Conan Doyle is turning in his grave in horror at what they did to his Holmes!

Watson (the Set-up:)
But in all our many adventures together, no case pushed my friend to such mental and physical extremes as that of The Abominable Bride!

It's all in his head:
-More to the point, what have YOU been doing?
Holmes: I've been in my Mind Palace, of course.
-Of course.
Holmes: Running an experiment. How would I have solved the crime, if I'd been there in 1895?

The old nemesis:
-I'm Moriarty. The Napoleon of Crime.
Holmes: Moriarty's dead!
-Not in your mind. I'll never be dead there.

Logic and deduction:
Holmes: From a drop of water a logician should be able to infer the possibility of an Atlantic or a Niagara.
