The plots are trite; the acting second rate. A disappointment.

Difficult accent to become accustomed to hearing. Entertaining series to watch. The music is annoying, twangy country western.

The series has been described as "charming, without being cloying, very well-written (thanks to Tim Balme) and funny, but not too funny [...] It’s also engaging, full of twists and will keep you guessing right till the end." (Christine Tidball)
I personally find it a very well done whodunit series. The setting in New-Zealand is authentic; the cops feel like real people; the actors play their roles very well; the plots, as in any whodunit, are slightly predictable but certainly more interesting and intricate than your regular American shows. The choice of music (country music) is fun and certainly "different" from other shows of this kind. I'll really miss Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Shepherd when this series ends... He really grows on you. Hopefully we can enjoy the Series 2 & 3 when they're out on DVD.

I don't have a particular reason why I love this series. The characters are great, stories and photography are very good.

Perhaps I should have given it a few episodes, but I found the plot of the first one so boring and the male lead so unpleasant to look at that I had no wish to see more.

I enjoyed Series One. It has a light touch, some humor, and no-one has super powers.

Not too impressed with first episode, but decided to watch one more. Glad I did, the writers added some quiet humour, the actors got into their roles, and because it is very low key investigating,, not big city slick, it works. Lovely countryside too.

We watched the first episode, then returned the set to the library. It had some good points, but wasn't up to the standard of Morse or Vera. It seemed like they were trying for something like Rebus, and older, crusty detective, and the younger, pretty, and caring female detective. But it didn't come off too well.

four movie length stories on four disks, none of them very good. Slow and uninteresting, with chunks of over emoting character actors as you villains and red-herrings and two detectives who show no actual detective or acting skills. The only interesting actor is their "ginger" third, and he has little to do. they have no chemistry, and are poorly directed, poorly written. The fact that this is the first show I have ever seen from New Zealand is the only unique feature and they don't show much of the local. Not worth anyone's time.
