This is a well-written story with lots of characters and plot twists to keep me interested. I have to admit that my impression of this book is somewhat influenced by watching a PBS show about the Bronte sisters as I was listening to the book. In that show, Charlotte was portrayed as a real cold-fish shrill who got no joy out of life, and didn't appear to want anybody else to either. That portrayal comes through in her writing, as Jane seems to go from one set of tormenters to another. As a man, I'm somewhat bothered that most of the men in Jane's life are heartless brutes, but again that seemed to be true for Bronte as well. I like to read (or listed to) the classics, and did enjoy this book overall.

The reading by Juliette Stevenson is fabulous, perhaps the best audiobook I have ever listened to!! I have read Jane Eyre several times during my life, and this narration made me feel as if I was rediscovering a gem. I knew what was going to happen, but it did not detract one white from the story. Well done!!!
