This famous book by Roald Dahl is a mild horror story for young kids who enjoy suspense. It is about a small boy who lives with his grandmother because his parents passed away in a car crash. His grandmother is loving and kind, and often provides the boy with information on how to distinguish a witch from a normal woman. One day, the boy finds out that his grandmother is very sick. The doctor tells her to recover at a hotel near the seaside because it would be good for her lungs. The boy has no choice but to go with her. Before he goes, his grandmother gives him two white mice to play with at the hotel. When he gets there, he finds an empty room which he thinks is a good place to play with his new mice. Suddenly, hundreds of women pour into the room. He is not spotted, and decides to stay as silent as possible. All at once, he sees them transform into witches. He discovers that they have a horrid plan, and decides to stop him. From being captured by the witch to saving his grandmother from them, the boy experiences an unexpected adventure like never before. As always, Rold Dahl created a truly suspenseful book that will get you checking for witches when you have finished!

The Witches is one of my favorite Roald Dahl books. As a little kid, I was captivated by the bald, toe-less witches with long fingernails and blue saliva. As an adult, I'm still enthralled by the nameless boy and his heroic grandmother. Published over 30 years ago, this book still holds up well.

The Witches is my favourite book written by Roald Dahl. The plot is completely unpredictable and the way the book is written is unique. The author's writing style is special in this particular book. There's always a rhyme embedded in the text whenever the witches conjure up spells. This book is truly magical and I love how Dahl incorporated little things from his childhood and his country, Norway. One of the characters in one of the early chapters is named Harald, after his father. The main character is Norwegian himself but was raised in England just like Roald Dahl. The witches in this book aren't your classic green skinned broom riders. The witches Dahl wrote about were from Norwegian folklore and stories. They're bald, have saliva as blue as pen ink, and don't have toes. I recommended reading this book no matter how old you are, this story will stay with you forever.

Real witches don’t make potions or ride on broomsticks. They don’t wear silly costumes or cackle. They act like regular women and hate children. They will do anything to get rid of them.

This is a fast-paced adventure book that's perfect for young readers.

Loved this book as a child. I even bought the DVD of the 1990 movie with Anjelica Huston. Can’t wait to see how the upcoming remake will be handled.

This was such a lark to read even for an adult. The witches were such creepy malicious creatures described in a hilarious way. The most touching part of the story is the boy's relationship with his grandma. He got turned into a mouse in a confrontation with the witches. Despite his plight, he saw the positive side of being a mouse with the love of his grandma. The moral of the story is: It doesn't matter how you look as long as someone loves you.

This is a great book. It’s interesting and also kind of creepy. Even though I found this book was pretty predictable it was still fun to read. I also liked the end. I like that it wasn’t the happiest ending ever but it also wasn’t the worst ending ever. I like books where the main character doesn’t go away unharmed. I would also like to thank my teacher for suggesting this book to me because it’s great!!!!!
