This was an awesome book! My daughter learned about the gingerbread man and I was able to explain the difference between reality and a fairy tale using this book as an example.

This book, Catch That Cookie, is based on an activity that is well known to many young school students. When I was a teacher, the kindergarten teachers had a gingerbread hunt every year. After making their gingerbread men, they had to follow the clues to find where the men had run off to. In this book, Marshall doesn't believe gingerbread men can run away, until he sees it for himself. His class follows the clues until the gingerbread men are caught. What a fun journey!

The illustrations in this book are delightful and colorful with sprinkles of humor throughout. The character of the teacher is so much fun. She gives fist bumps and lots of encouragement. What fun it would be to buy this book and have a gingerbread hunt with your own little one!

Marshall can’t believe it when all of the gingerbread men made by his class mysteriously disappear from the oven.
Where could they have gone?
The class has just heard the story about the runaway gingerbread man, but Marshall doesn’t believe a word of it. “No way!” he says. How could gingerbread men just get up and scamper away?
However, his classmates are convinced that their freshly-baked cookies have indeed run away. Soon they find the first of many clues left behind by the gingerbread men. “We ran from the oven; we were bored and hot; now we’re hiding in a big, black ___!”
Aha! Readers are invited to follow along as the class quickly follows each clue in turn to various locations in the school. When Marshall’s detective work finally locates the missing cookies, he becomes convinced that perhaps gingerbread men really can run away!
With colourful illustrations by David Small, Hallie Durand’s amusing mystery tale - told in rhyming text - is sure to become a Christmas favourite!
** Recommended for ages 4 to 7 years.
