The Grand-daddy of rock reference books, first published in 1969. It has 600 pages and has a mini bio/discography of hundreds of artists from the '50s and '60s. It's cool to read a 1969 perspective on artists like The Nice, Soft Machine, Silver Apples, Skip Spence, Iggy Pop, The USA, Velvet Underground, Traffic, Procol Harum, Sandy Bull, Beefheart, Zappa et al - while these folks were actually new/current rather than past legends.
