I never really identified the race of any of the characters in the book, except that they all have certain features. I was a bit confused with the hierarchy (emperor suggests of Central Asian background) but the protagonists had red hair, so of European? Overall, it was a genuinely nice read, with just enough action and suspense to keep me reading onward without pause. I expected more "zombie action" from the back of the book but it just seemed to appear in the beginning. The romance was okay, not amazing, but just okay overall.

Great read! Fast paced and leaves you wanting to know more about their world and how all the characters fit together. The details about the girls abilities are a little lacking.

This is a fantastic book! It's about Northern twins Ashyn and Moria who are the Seeker and the Keeper of Edgewood. This book is very bloody and gory so I would recommend this book to open minded readers.

Not really super into the extreme fantasy genre, coming from the darkest powers series I thought I would try some more of Kelley's books but I don't really like extreme fantasy books like i said before so I didn't really finish this one. I love Kelley's other series' though.

This book is absolutely amazing!

fun story with good twists, but a bit corny for an adult reader.

A solid story with a good enough plot to hold interest - but not a page burner.

“Sea of Shadows” by Kelley Armstrong is the first book in her captivating new trilogy Age of Legends. The Keeper, Moria and the Seeker, Ashyn are twins and were raised by the outskirts of the Forest of the Dead, in Edgewood, where the empire’s worst criminals are exiled. The sisters are charged with a dangerous task of being the Keeper and Seeker, each year they have to quiet the enraged souls of the damned. But this time, they will not halt. After being separated, Moria and Ashyn travel to find each other, sending them far from their home and their father. Being accompanied by a stubborn imperial guard and a handsome condemned thief, the girls cross a wasteland filled with monsters, in order to warn the emperor. But when they get to the court, a terrible secret was awaiting for them. This terrible secret will change the balance of their lives, their world, forever. “Sea of Shadows” is a breathtaking adventure that could make anyone fall in love with Kelley Armstrong’s writing. This novel has an excellent title because the Forest of the Dead contains Shadows, many Shadows that haunt the people that are exiled. I would recommend this book and “Empire of Night” to people with an interest in action and romance. These books have made everyone realize that Kelley Armstrong has a genre of her own, one that keeps the reader intrigued and full of suspense to wait for her next novel.

This book had two strikes against it when I first picked it up. It's fantasy, and YA. I grabbed it as I walked by the shelf, not knowing what it was about. When I got home and read the back and realized it wasn't my cup of tea I quickly put it aside. Desperation called when I had nothing else to read, so I picked it up and really enjoyed it. Even if this isn't your usual read, give it a shot, you may be pleasantly surprised.
