Bravo to Jennifer Nielsen for this third installment of the Ascendant Trilogy. The situation looked more and more dire, but Jaron is able to come up with a happily ever after with the help of his clever tricks and faithful friends. I loved this trilogy and highly recommend it!

These books are so much fun; you know there will be a twist, but it still takes you by surprise. I really like King Jaron's character and the way he always has a plan. I highly enjoyed and would recommend this series.

A solid conclusion to an enjoyable trilogy. The first book remains my favorite, but this final installment had the same political maneuverings and strategies that made the previous two volumes so enjoyable, and Jaron is a great narrator. Everything ties up quite neatly, but I can't really complain about that in a middle-grade novel, and I'd recommend this trilogy to kids who are looking for a new middle grade fantasy series that sacrifices the supernatural elements of fantasy in favor of exciting battles and strategizing.

Beyond anything I'd ever imagined! Five stars is belittling for this book. Jaron is as clever and foolish (it seems like a contradiction but as anyone who read the books knows, it's the perfect description of our mischievous hero) as ever, and his sense of humor throughout his first-person narration only grows. Jen Neilson wound up the story perfectly, as only an expert and an exceptionally talented author can manage. She has a knack of drawing people into the story so that they feel they're in it. When it got to some really perilous situations, I got so terrified for Jaron it's no wonder my hand was trembling as I held the book. My mouth literally fell open in shock at a point (whoever's read the book will know the moment I'm talking about). I can only gape at Jen's pure talent in writing such an ingenious book. And when I say ingenious, I meant it in every sense of the word.
