Stone Barrington's newest client does not seem the type to bring mayhem in his wake. A polite, well-deported gentleman, he comes to Stone seeking legal expertise on an unusual--and potentially lucrative--dilemma. Stone points him in the right direction and sends him on his way, but it's soon clear Stone hasn't seen the end of the case. Several people are keenly interested in this gentleman's activities and how they may relate to a long-ago crime . . . and some of them will stop at nothing to find the information they desire

Another entry in the life and times of Stone Barrington, a guy we've grown to know and, most of the time, enjoy: rich, eats well, travels far, and always in some kind of difficulty! The Urban Dictionary says "Standup Guy" is a Mafia term for a good solid man, [a] business man, not one to bullshit, can be trusted, etc. Is the author referring to Johnny Fratelli who has just been released from prison on the completion of his full 25 year term? Or is it Stone? Because of Johnny's friendship with a leading mobster in prison he has come into some real money and needs Stone's legal advice on, hypothetically, how to "shelter" it. The mobster's family and other unethicals are in pursuit. As usual Stone encounters beautiful women; we can't be sure which of them are on his side. The usual players show up for the ride, the President and the First Lady, Dino, Bill Eggers, Joan, Holly Barker, and even Herbie, or should I now call him Herbert too? Teddy Fay briefly. Somewhat formulaic, but I've enjoyed too many of these to stop now.

I liked this Audiobook CD by Woods, Stuart. I like this author and his style. It is too violent and sexual for children to listen to. This is a murder mystery sleuthing story. The twists and turns in the story keep you interested. Dino is married to Vivian. Vivian has retired from the NYPD. Peter, Stone's son, works at the movie studio. Will Lee and Kate are married. Will is almost finished his second term as USA President. Kate is running as a candidate as a Senator. Stone is supporting Kate. Stone contributed $1 million toward her election. 25 years ago a 14 million robbery was successful at the airport. 2 of the fellows lived. 2 died in the last 25 years that passed. The book does not say how they dies. 1 of them lived long enough to be caught by the authorities. $7 million was recovered. 1 of them did his 25 years in prison never telling anyone where the money was. He hid the $7 million in a bank safety deposit. Only he knew where the key was. A lot of people want the money including both criminals and the law. This person dies in prison at a old age. He tells his cell mate he had for 22 years where the key is. Many are in hot pursuit of him when he finishes his 25 year prison term. Criminals as shooting him. The law is stalking him. He hires Stone as a lawyer. Stone gets caught in the middle of this. Stone is also shot at. The criminals kidnap his lover to extort the money from Stone when his client leaves the country and is unavailable. Stone's lover is actually working with criminal secretly to get the money too. She steals the $5 million money from Stone. Stone's lover dies in the end. Stone only recovers $4.5 million. Stone's client is called " A Standup Guy" because he did not try to get parole. He did his whole prison term. The Standup Guy changes his name and remarries to a rich woman The client finds happiness. All the criminals trying to kill the client are dead. The law stopped chasing the client. the client feels safe.

While I enjoyed this entertaining story, I didn't care for some of the plot involving Stone's stupidity around money and a woman. 7 of 10 stars
