Possibly born a little late to have been part of the generation of the great american composers but not to be really excluded. Also, his music is part of that generation and he could have been more popular and could also have churned more beautiful music compared to his present output. I am inclined to believe that his early success is an indication of the last of that generation to embrace his music in a popular sense and not just an icon of musical greatness but with no mass appeal. I love his music and I hope the youth of today will discover what real music is and Marvin's contribution is just a pittance in that wide spectrum of great standards.
