While coping with her mother's death (no spoiler here, it happens at the beginning of the movie), a young teen played by Anna Paquin becomes mother to a flock of goslings and gets to know her artist/inventor father played by Jeff Daniels. There are some tense moments, but for the most part, I couldn't stop smiling while watching this movie. The geese are the best part. I recommend the film for all ages and for families. It was directed by Carroll Ballard (The Black Stallion, Never Cry Wolf). Fly Away Home is rated PG for an opening accident scene and some mild language. Warning: your child may want to wear a nose ring to be like Amy (Anna). Hey, it was 1996...

Story line is one of the best, and Anna Paquin's and Jeff Daniel's acting was superb. Watched it several times and still not bored of it!

Director Carroll Ballard is a master with a children's movie that we adults turn out to enjoy as well. "Fly Away Home" is about a 13 year old orphan girl and her estranged father who adopt a flock of baby geese. All are going to learn some valuable life lessons. The cinematography, as with all Carroll Ballard films, is excellent. The film takes us on a beautiful journey your not likely to forget. Outstanding film for the whole family!

"Amy" played by Anna Paquin just lost her Mom is sent to Canada from New Zealand to be with her father never thinking that she would become "an adopted mama" for a flock of orphaned geese. This is truly a heartwarming movie inspired by a true story. The song "10,000 miles" song I believe by Mary Chapin Carpenter, is just beautiful. Loved it! (tissues, please!)
