Greta Gerwig is radiant as a woman in her late twenties in contemporary New York, trying to sort out her ambitions, her finances, and, above all, her tight but changing bond with her best friend, Sophie (Mickey Sumner). Meticulously directed by Noah Baumbach (Kicking and Screaming) with a free-and-easy vibe reminiscent of the French New Wave's most spirited films, and written by Baumbach and Gerwig with an effortless combination of sweetness and wit, Frances Ha gets at both the frustrations and the joys of being young and unsure of where to go next

A playful and touching film, tough it seems unfinished to me; there ought to have been another twenty minutes to give an ending to the story. I was quite annoyed at the use (theft!) of the music from "The 400 Blows" in the film.

A very stylistic, unconventional look at a woman's life in New York. The characters in this film are so loveable and Greta Gerwig has such an interesting approach to acting. Sharply written dialogue throughout, great chemistry between the characters, and just some really funny moments. Great movie!

So super-good! It's about growing up, and the evolution of a friendship. Beautiful! Especially Frances' outpouring on , "YOUR person in this world".

ah, com'on. this a fantasy in someone's mind. I wanted to slap her and sit her down and talk to Frances about her life in the fantasy world. bad, bad, waste of film.

This was like a bad episode of Girls and in fact the annoying guy that plays Lena Dunham's boyfriend is in this movie. I can't tolerate movies with obvious improvisational scenes, I could only stand perhaps 10-15 minutes before I turned it off.

Don't waste your time. Completely dull and pointless and about nothing - but thinks it's trendy. Nothing redeeming about this one. Story is about a group of 20- something New Yorkers leading dull, pointless lives and ends the same way. Kept waiting for the point of the movie, never arrived, ticked off because there were other, better things we could've been doing.

Mildly interesting movie of the ups and downs of a woman whose life could have been a train wreck, if she was a little less positive. Greta Gerwig is good but, she doesn't have a dancer's grace for the role. And I don't get why it was shot in B&W. It sets nothing for the tone of the film.

Frances: It's that thing when you're with someone, and you love them and they know it, and they love you and you know it... but it's a party... and you're both talking to other people, and you're laughing and shining... and you look across the room and catch each others eyes... but - but not because you're possessive, or it's precisely sexual... but because... that is your person in this life. And it's funny and sad, but only because this life will end, and it's this secret world that exists right there in public, unnoticed, that no one else knows about. It's sort of like how they say that other dimensions exist all around us, but we don't have the ability to perceive them. That's - That's what I want out of a relationship. Or just life, I guess.
