Here we are in Cuba with 2 siblings, the male a wimpy gay, the female a whiny wretch. Both have dead end jobs and are infatuated with a scuzzy layabout. Without thinking very hard, they attempt to leave and find their fortune in Miami.
None of the characters is very sympathetic (good) but this tale seems like it could have been done much better by a social realist like Sean Baker (Takeout, Starlet, Prince of Broadway, Tangerine.)
Docked a notch as it is associated with Spike Lee - film's most self-reverential character.

Did you say that the actors are mostly unprofessional? You can't prove it by me. These young people pull off a wonderful film that has you from the beginning to the end. Great movie making!

This movie made me feel sad, seeing how these people has to live right in our back yard.

The sad reality of Cuba is the desperation many face when they live in such an oppressed island. Many are willing to risk their lives and put something together to carry them as they try to reach Miami; that's what happened with these 3 individuals.
Are you willing to die at sea or on Cuban soil? When nothing seems to go your way and there's poverty, hunger and no future in sight many turn to prostitution or live a life of bitterness and bondage.
Fidel's Cuba is what happens when one man holds all the power and makes things unbearable for others.
The only thing I strongly disagree with is the profanity that was inflicted in this movie. You don't have to get your message across when every other word that's used has to be vulgar. What Cubans are you talking about?
