According to "Parrot Confidential" - It seems that (for many people) keeping a parrot as a house-pet is turning out to be a very difficult and demanding matter.

Not only do parrots live long lives (sometimes up to 40 years) - But they are also not domesticated, so they do not adapt well to being caged and kept indoors.

This wildlife-documentary talks with parrot owners, breeders, and biologists who voice their great concern about the number of parrots that are being abandoned by their owners.

At only 60 minutes in length - This presentation certainly proves to be a real education about parrots as pets.

(*Familiar parrot quote*) - "Polly wanna cracker!"

Next to cats and dogs - Parrots are, apparently, the 3rd most popular household pet of all. And - Next to apes and dolphins - Parrots are also of the highest intelligence amongst the non-human animals of this world.

And, with that glowing introduction to parrots - What people are finding out about these awesome creatures is that (due to them not being domesticated and also being single-mindedly headstrong) parrots are turning out to be the ultimate "pet-from-hell".

And, as a result of this one, tiny flaw - People are dumping their parrots at an alarming rate where these poor creatures now have no safe place to go for refuge.

Through candid interviews with pet owners, breeders, and biologists - This insightful and caring wildlife-documentary proves to be a real eye-opener on many levels. Indeed.

Yes. "Parrot Confidential" is definitely worth a view, especially if you are seriously thinking of getting a parrot as a pet.

This is an important documentary. These birds are such intelligent and emotional creatures. They deserve our admiration and respect, not to be captured, bred and kept by people who cannot handle the responsibility of caring for them.

Great public service production from Nature via PBS.

I had know idea that some of these birds have the lifespan that they do.

This is a very good doc for people considering purchasing a bird for a pet (to watch beforehand).

I was astonished and moved by what I learned about parrots and how much they need socialization.
I love the freedom they have in the wild and how they mate for life.
Kudos to all those people who made room in their homes and lives for homeless parrots. Truly unique and heart touching!

The true meaning of this documentary is if you love parrots don't shop adopt. Keep in mind parrots make horrible pets they will not meant to be kept in a cages but to be able to fly free. If you really need a companion or a pet get a dog or a cat!!!!!
