If you like old time pulp heroes like Doc Savage and the Avenger, like I do, you'll like this. Tony Harris' artwork is intricate, grotesque and beautifully retro and the adventure is fun. One of my few quibbles, though, is there's no explanation why he wears such a frightening mask and the ordinary citizens he encounters don't seem particularly frightened by it. Another small complaint is that the mystery at the heart of the story isn't much of a mystery and kind of makes these adventurers and a whole town seem a little dense. Like I said, though, these are small complaints compared to the retro-pulp fun created here. B. Clay Moore and Harris have created an intriguing hero with the Whistling Skull and matched him with fascinating backup and villains.

Good unusual art and an interesting character make this a bit better than average although the story is a bit overlong.
