"1952. Twelve years have passed since Churchill lost to the appeasers and Britain surrendered to Nazi Germany. The global economy strains against the weight of the long German war against Russia still raging in the east. The British people find themselves under increasingly authoritarian rule--the press, radio, and television tightly controlled, the British Jews facing ever greater constraints. But Churchill's Resistance soldiers on. As defiance grows, whispers circulate of a secret that could forever alter the balance of the global struggle. The keeper of that secret? Scientist Frank Muncaster, who languishes in a Birmingham mental hospital. Civil Servant David Fitzgerald, a spy for the Resistance and University friend of Frank's, is given the mission to rescue Frank and get him out of the country. Hard on his heels is Gestapo agent Gunther Hoth, a brilliant, implacable hunter of men, who soon has Frank and David's innocent wife, Sarah, directly in his sights."-- From dust jacket flap

This is a great political alternate-history thriller. It's well plotted, fast paced, the characters believable, the background meticulously drawn, and it's tense from beginning to end.

His book is the best read I have enjoyed in a long time. I was 8 when the second WW broke out and related to all the political names and other characters in this book. I agreed with the authors comments on Nationalism. I found the whole book informative and indeed a little frightening, but couldn't put it down and read every word!

Dominion is probably one of, if not the best alternate history book out there! A compelling storyline, with exceptional plot development and a quick pace, Dominion is my favourite read of the year(so far) and is a MUST read. Stephen King isn't joking when he says it's a terrific novel!

Huge disappointment. The concept of a post WW II Britain as a vassal state of a victorious Nazi Germany has all kinds of potential which Sansom wastes with a a meandering plot. Taut this is not.

I have read one other CJ Sansome historical novel (the one with the Mary Rose). I liked it but found the author's writing and story-telling skills to be "average". "Dominion" was engaging but I was put off by Sansome's perpetuation of the myth about the Catholic Church and the nazis. He appeared to have one source in his Bibiliography: "Hitler's Pope". A very weak source of info in my opinion and inaccurate. If you read this book, don't let the aspersions against the Church go by. Do some further research. The Catholic Church, nor its Pope collaborated with the Nazis.

How would society re-arrange itself & how would the different citizens and occupiers behave after 12 years of Nazi/Gestapo control? Good characters, weak & strong, in a suspenseful, (mostly) believable story. Highly recommended.

I am a huge fan of CJ Sansom's Shardlake series so I eagerly await this latest novel. No one writes historical fiction as he does, creating such realistic characters, suspenseful narrative and great attention to detail.
