Funny photographic deconstruction of everyday items.

Dec 07, 2013

Ursus Wehrli has put together a collection of amusing photos of things broken down into their constituent parts. I can't help but look at them and see what is happening to our modern society, where technology facilitates radical consolidation and simplification. The singularity of the internet, monoculture and efficiency is rapidly restructuring everything, with a loss of meaning and idiosyncratic structure. Soon, everything will be arranged in Wehrli's neat and tidy piles.

What happens when you dismantle a Christmas tree, a parking lot or a bowl of alphabet soup? For Ursus Wehrli, the breakdown of everyday arrangements results in neatness, order and one of the most delightful little photography books out there. The artist provides no text but presents bright, crisp and wondrous before and after photos that inspire thought and laughter.

Undoubtedly a short "read," "The Art of Clean Up" begs to be flipped through over and over again; each page reveals something new with every look.
