An explosive stand-alone thriller from the Edgar Award-winning writer Stephen King called "the next suspense superstar"

Can a person ever really disappear for good by going off the grid? And what happens when vanishing is no longer an option?

Sarah Keller is a single mother to five-year-old Zoe, living quietly in Oklahoma. She's also a skip tracer, an expert in tracking people who've gone on the lam to avoid arrest, prosecution, or debt--pinpointing their locations to bring them to justice.

When a school bus accident sends Zoe to the ER, their quiet life explodes. Zoe's medical tests reveal what Sarah has been hiding: Zoe is not her daughter. Zoe's biological mother--Sarah's sister, Beth--was murdered shortly after the child's birth. And Zoe's father is missing and presumed dead.

With no way to prove her innocence, Sarah must abandon her carefully constructed life and go on the run. Chased by cops, federal agents, and the group responsible for Beth's murder, Sarah embarks on a desperate journey. Can her knowledge as a skip tracer help her stay off the grid, remain one step ahead of her pursuers, and find a way to save her daughter?

Meg Gardiner is acclaimed for her richly drawn characters, propulsive plotting, relentless suspense, and shocking twists. The Shadow Tracer delivers on those fronts and more.

Very fast read - I found myself unable to put it down. The characters were good and interesting. The action was almost non-stop. I really liked this book.

Loved it! Descriptions were so good I could see it clearly in my mind. Hard to put down.

A taut thriller that is engaging even if rather formulaic and written primarily for a female audience juxtaposing the evil with the hormone-inducing innocence of a child protected by the woman protagonist who is cornered and is empowered to fight back, etc. Evil family members straight from The Devil's Rejects genre who think better than the FBI and move like aliens in sci-fi movies, the obsessed/pig-headed FBI agent that makes things worse (the kind of cliched character that appears in every season of shows like 24), the friendly US Marshall, a woman's ideal of a thinking, feeling, flawed but true male who seems likely to fall apart faster than the woman protagonist, and a collection of side characters including a nun make this into a kitchen sink of an action thriller of the type that is read and soon forgotten.

have liked other books by this author, but this one just seemed to repetitive and implausible. A woman disappears with a baby, and manages to stay off the grid until a school bus accident brings the baby, now 5, Zoe, to the Emergency dept. A RFID chip is found in her, thru Xrays, and it sets off a cross country escape/chase. FBI, US Marshall service, fanatical religious assassins and local police all want Zoe, and her "mum", Sarah, for various reasons.

This isn't a novel, it's a screen treatment for a car-chase / blow-'em-up action flick of the most mindless type

Naming a US Marshal "Lawless" seems bizarre, especially when he's the male lead. I wanted more of Danisha Helms, black lesbian ex-soldier, devoted to Sarah and Zoe. Maybe in a sequel?

i liked this much better than i thought i would. definitely action-packed. but unlike some other thrillers, this one had great character development and was easy to follow. i'm adding Meg Gardiner to my 'to read' shelf for sure!

I heard this reviewed on the radio and thought it would appeal. It did. A page turner from start to finish with some very nasty characters.Up beat inspite of everything that happened.

a page turner from page one! This was a face paced non-stop action book. I liked the story and I liked the characters. This was a great adventure with cults, polygamists, detectives, FBI agents and U.S Marshalls, even a nun. And surprisingly east to follow. I will definitely check out more of her books!
