Good for fifth and sixth graders. Definitely about that shift from elementary to middle school interests. Plot was a bit pokey.

Definitely one of my favorite books :)

I really wish this book was a true story. Hiding all ur secrets into a tree would be so fascinating! It was an amazing book and had a really great plot twist

"Minty and her BFF Paz are gearing up to spend the summer working on their roller-derby moves when Minty discovers a hollow tree stuffed with secrets - people from her town have poured out their hearts on slips of paper and left them there. While Paz starts hanging out with a new group of friends, Minty begins investigating the secrets, which lead her to Raymond, a peculiar kid who seems to live by himself and may know the Witch Lady who lives in the woods. Fans of quirky, realistic novels should definitely pick up this hopeful and sometimes heart-wrenching story of friendship, family, and finding your way." Everyone has secrets as ten-year-old Minty finds out when she discovers a note stuffed into a hollow tree. The woods behind Minty’s house may shelter a Man-Bat and definitely shelter an elusive boy whom Minty manages to meet and become friends with. Beyond the woods, in a run-down house lives the Witch Lady. As more secrets are placed in the tree, Minty and her new friend, Raymond, decide to identify the owners of the secrets. Friendships fall apart and change in this book as the summer goes on, but eventually everything rights itself and the secrets are no longer important. Reviewed by BPL volunteer EE.
