A visceral plunge into the life of a famous torero played by real-life bullfighting legend Miguel Mateo, known as Miguelin. Charting his rise and fall with a single-minded focus on the bloody business at hand, the film is at once gritty and operatic, placing the viewer right in the thick of the rings action, as close to death as possible. This is a not just an electrifying drama but also a profound and moving inquiry into a violent world and perhaps the greatest bullfighting movie ever made

This is a mid-20th century Italian movie about bullfighting in Spain. The scenes are beautiful, yet often bloody and unlike Hollywood. It is more like the neo-realism of European films of the thirties. The movie portrays the story of a young man who likes neither the harsh farming of his small town or the "slave-labor" environment of the big city. He seizes the opportunity to become a toreador. While watching the movie, one must ask, "How much of this is filmed inside a studio and how much is filmed in actual bull-fighting arenas? How is the director doing it?" The interview with the director reveals all.
