Barney Panofsky is a seemingly ordinary man who lives an extraordinary life. With his father, Izzy as his sidekick, Barney reflects on the many highs, and a few too many lows, of his long and colorful life. Not only does Barney turn out to be a true romantic, he is also capable of all kinds of sneaky acts of gallantry, generosity, and goodness when it is least expected. His gloriously full life is played out on a grand scale all the way through the final chapters

Seen this movie on dash board,so i ordered it. I had forgotten that i had checked it out before. I was hooked to watch the entire movie again.
Barney was a mess. Izzy the father was great. You would think the drinking and smoking cigars would have gotten Barney before the Alzheimer's. Izzy had the best way to exit this life. :-)

How to make a film out of Mordecai Richler's book, Barney's Version? I think generally he would have approved. The cast was very attractive with Minnie Driver as the second Mrs P. and Dustin Hoffman as Barney's father, the Jewish New York cop.Paul Giamatti as Barney was ideal. The screen version would have to tone down the bite and punch of the book but the kinder softer version still has enough of the wit and humour to be very entertaining to watch.

A very good adaptation of the book (of the same title) by Mordecai Richler.

I am surprised that this film didn't get more recognition in the Academy Award. It is funny and full of events during a feature length. After I finish watching it, I feel like there is still more to come like an episode 2 or something.

Pike was absolutely stunning and the Protagonist definitely went all the way out to be his best here.

This film is about some sad and troubled individuals trying to make sense of things.

BARNEY'S VERSION was filled with an excellent cast and led by Paul Giamatti in a role that he put on like a sweater and, man, did he wear it well. BARNEY'S VERSION was sold mostly as a funny romantic comedy, but it is actually much more serious than that. It's Canadian and has the Montreal spirit infused within it, and you can tell that Mordecai Richler wrote the source material. I found it fascinating and sorrowful. I really enjoyed it, but if you think it's a funny multi-marriage laugh riot, you're going to be shocked by how different it really is. I'd recommend, but with that warning.

The characters in this film are very engaging; however, despite the close bonds between them they have no hope and life seems void of meaning. I walked away from this film with a cloud of gloom over my head.
