In the locker room Eve tied on the hard black uniform shoes. She hated them-- always had-- but regulation was regulation. She pushed off the bench, then reached for her uniform cap. Turning to the mirror, she fixed it squarely on her head. She could see herself as she'd been a dozen years before, green as spring, with a shine on her shield and on those damned hard black shoes. A cop, then and now, without any question, any hesitation, over what she was meant to be. Had to be. She'd thought she'd known, but she hadn't known, really hadn't begun to know what she would see and do, what she would learn and come to accept. What she would live through and live with. A lot of corners turned, she thought, and one sharp, jagged corner had been turned the moment she'd stepped into apartment 303 on 258 Murray one sweltering day in late September, barely six weeks after she'd graduated from the Academy. She remembered the fear, the coppery smear of it in her throat, and she remembered the horror like a red haze.

Really enjoyed this book. One of my favourites in the In Death series.

The characters are boring in this JD Robb novel. Nora Roberts who wrote this book, takes Eve Dallas and makes her not find the killer fast enough even though she knows who it is. This book stinks!!!! I only read up until page 89 until I gave up. What's the point if the detective is smarter than the rest of the people she works with? I hope the other Eve Dallas books are better than FROM New York To Dallas. Don't read this one!

Five stars. Have paperbacks of ALL the Eve and Rourke books. Have enjoyed very much the growth of the relationship of these two, as well as the supporting cast right through the series. A must read for those who enjoy an ongoing love story with some tasteful sex along with homicide cases. Although Roberts aka JD Robb has stated that this series will end when Eve becomes pregnant, I really hope this is not the case, it would open up the story with I am sure some very, very amusing times to go along with the often brutally bloody scenes that Eve and Peabody investigate. Long may this series continue.

masterful, truly masterful. A great addition to an amazing series, I don't know how she does this in book after book after book without a clunker. More of a psychological thriller than prior stories and certainly quite disturbing. In "New York to Dallas" (the city), our amazing author author adds to the already complex character development of our protagonist Dallas (the character), what drives her and especially what haunts her by forcing her back to the city and her terrifying childhood. Be advised in this book, the bad guy is a child molester.

DEATH IN DALLAS should be the title. A murderer from Eve's past escapes prison and decides to take Eve on. He is assisted by an older woman whom Eve finds vaguely familiar. The trail takes them to Dallas. REVIEW: Excellent DEATH IN book. I feared it would be all psychological but it was a fulfilling DEATH IN title. A bit unrealistic in the way Eve takes charge although from out of state and in the presence of feds. Not about Dallas' father this time. Excellent read.

I love this book, but I do miss the usual characters. Almost got hit in the stomach with a surprise character. I absolutely love this series and still trying to read all the ones I have missed. I am so glad I found this series and will continue to read it.

Fabulous book. Read so long I can't see straight. Finally finished. It is one that once you start reading you can't put it down. Enjoy!,,,,
