Description of the early years of Henri Matisse from childhood to 1908 when he started receiving recognition for his "vulgar" works, This book is exceptionally detailed and includes large amounts of correspondence between Matisse, his family, friends, peers and collectors which details his artistic development from a classical trained to fauve ( wild beasts). The book provides many details of his private life and motivations. This book is most likely suitable for someone who is very interested in art history or details of Matisse
