This movie was quite interesting to see a woman trying to seek justice through the Chinese judicial system. At some points Qiu Ju's effects seemed pointless and that she should have stopped but I was amazed to watch her fierce determination and how she kept going even when everyone saw it as foolish.

A beautiful film that also depicts life as it's lived in northern rural China. A combination of narrative & documentary style cinema. What I enjoyed was the woman is the one who tries to right what was a wrong, an injustice by a respected elder in her community & how far she was willing to go! A personal story well done by Zhang Yimou.

This is a very interesting and compelling story, because it's a depiction of how someone's idea of justice can be too personal. The main character starts out wanting a certain thing, and pursues it relentlessly, but it kind of gets out of her hands after a certain point, and she ends up surprised and deeply regretful. A great story of interpersonal conflict, forgiveness, and how the legal system can chew people up in its maw (and this goes for anywhere, not just China!!).
