The book was a fine first effort, but it still had some problems. While the characters were engaging (though the female characters, Alice in particular, could have been better fleshed out), the prose seemed better fitted for that of a short story. I did enjoy it, even if I was a bit underwhelmed by the end of it. I look forward to seeing Mr. Yates develop as a writer.
