Thinking with Type is a quick, easy to read introduction to typography. I recommend it to anyone with an interest in design. Be aware that a second edition of Thinking With Type was released in 2010. In addition to having an orange cover (instead of a green one) it also has quite a bit of added content. If you are looking for a more in-depth book on typography, Robert Bringhurst's The Elements of Typographic Style is another excellent book.
