This was a popular book to be seen carrying around with you in California during the 70s. It said a lot about you. It said you were intelligent, and it said you had an open, broad, mind. The editor, Joseph Campbell, was nearly as popular with his own works, during the 80s, especially amongst people in recovery ( 12 steps). As is usual with these kinds of books, it gives a broad spectrum of the featured author's works, without necessarily going to deeply into any aspect of such. So, it can serve as a useful introduction to the author. But hold onto it: it functions as a bibliography as you read deeper into the subjects the author covered. There are some illuminating short films out there, too.
