A forceful blast of music, drama, and love, the final performance of the long-running Broadway hit RENT was filmed in front of its live audience and showcased in movie theatres around the country. To ease those worried that this show doesn't have the same impact as seen through a screen than on stage, don't worry: Jonathan Larson's rock opera about bohemians living in 80's New York City under the threat of AIDS still packs a punch. The cinematography captures the all-star cast (including Adam Kantor, Renee Elise Goldsberry, Will Chase, Eden Espinosa, Michael McElroy, and more) performing their hearts out under Michael Grief's genius direction. Definitely watch this instead of the 2005 movie adaptation: this one will more likely have you grabbing for the tissue box.

Renee Elise Goldsberry absolutely shines as Mimi in this production. I've never gotten to see RENT live, so having this DVD is a godsend. All the actors, principals and ensemble alike, bring their all to their performances. Seeing Angel die always makes me tear up - the actor is so incredibly talented. The music was superb as well.

Lots of fun - great production. I can see (now) why it ran so long.

Never been to Broadway show, but I was very impressed by the terrific stage work. Although I couldn't relate to some aspects of NY 'street living', I am very glad I watched this.

This is disgustingly horrible.

It is a hit and miss musical. Some of the music is outstanding, other parts are annoying. Costumes and dancing are great.

WOW!!!! I loved the movie version but the Broadway version is awesome. It fills in the gaps that I had questions about watching the movie version.
The featurettes are even better. You get to know more about the love for this musical. You meet the orginal cast members who were invited to particpate in the end run, the affect the show had on the last cast of the first run and the fans who have supported the show.
I could watch this over and over again.

Generic Broadway with cliche music and lyrics. Stereotypes abound. Wrong (manic) energy level. This is the East Village as presented to tourists to The New Times Square. Yuck.
