This movie was laughably unrealistic. The funniest moment was Alec Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins wearing bearskins after they killed the bear. Ridiculous and hilarious!

Unique survival in the wilderness story. Enjoyed it, very well done. Regarding the bear encounter I would have attempted a double toe hold on the bear until it submitted rather than the approach used in the film.

VERY GOOD 1997 outdoor adventure movie - augmented by a mélange of David Mametian metaphoric styling.

I rarely watch a movie more than once, and I don't know what keeps drawing me back to this movie. Any time I stumble upon in on cable, I watch it again. It is true that Anthony Hopkins is an excellent actor, I've also seen "The World's Fastest India" and "Legends of the Fall" multiple times. I am fond of a good survival tale... this one fits the bill.

A suspenseful film featuring three epic conflicts, man versus nature, man versus man, and man versus bear!

Sir Anthony Hopkins is great in this film as a well read businessman who knows what it takes to survive in the Alaskan wilderness!

The movie has a slow start, but once the action switches to the wilderness, it's an exciting ride with a few surprises.

Good movie. Survival in the wilderness is always exciting, and you learn some things, like using your wristwatch as a compass? I never knew that. Killing the bear is the most scary part---I can't imagine how they filmed that, and how it would feel to really have to survive with no gear or help.

Pretty much "The Grey" with a smaller cast.
